I am grateful for the University of Ottawa Heart Institute because they saved and extended my life and my daughters were able to grow up with their father.  A weekend hockey warrior, I suffered a heart attack on the ice at the age of 37.  The news got worse when I was informed that I needed open heart bypass surgery. I had no prior family history or medical issues.  My twin daughters were two years old and my third daughter was a few months old.  My courageous wife Cathy had to take care of them and me! That was seventeen years ago.

We are so fortunate to have this world class Institute in our backyard. The care I received was, and continues to be, exceptional, from the incredible surgeons and cardiologists to the genuine, caring and professional nurses, scientists and staff. Their level of compassion is unmatched, making me feel like part of an extended family!  I was incredibly lucky to have access to this kind of care. I am thankful for the UOHI and the great community of Ottawa that continues to support it!
