February is Heart Month

Date: Thursday, February 1, 2018 to Wednesday, February 28, 2018

Location: Ottawa

Heart Month is an opportunity for individuals, groups, and businesses to take the lead in raising funds and awareness for the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. It's giving that goes straight to the heart of care in your community.

The Ottawa Heart Institute's new clinical tower the largest expansion in our more than 40 year history - will open its doors in April 2018. Right now, there is an urgent need to purchase new cardiac equipment for the new facility. If you or someone you love has ever been a patient at the Heart Institute, chances are that equipment purchased through donations and support like yours may saved your life.

You can be a part of Heart Month in a number of ways:

  • participate in an event
  • buy and display a paper heart
  • make a donation that could be matched by a Community Matching Partner
  • Take control of your heart health with the Heart Health Challenge

Ottawa Race Weekend Scotiabank Charity Challenge

Date: Saturday, May 26, 2018 to Sunday, May 27, 2018

Location: Ottawa Race Weekend

Ever thought about taking part in Ottawa Race Weekend, Canada’s largest race weekend? Make 2018 your year to accomplish this goal and support the Heart Institute while you are at it.

It’s easy: Register for any Race Weekend event by visiting runottawa.ca and completing the Scotiabank Charity Challenge component. Here you can choose to support the Heart Institute with your registration and, if you choose to, you can create a personal fundraising page to encourage your friends and family to do the same.

Once you have chosen to support the Heart Institute, you will have access to race-related perks including a Team Heart t-shirt. Plus to encourage and support those who may be intimidated and as a special incentive, the Heart Institute’s Heart Wise exercise group invites you to be part of a team of participants who want a little extra support or company during training and at the event. As a member of the Heart Institute Heart Wise team, you will choose between a 5 or 10KM run or walk and you will be supported along the way with training tips, a group warm up, and company during the race if you choose. If you run or walk at Ottawa Race Weekend this year, we encourage our friends, staff, patients and their loved ones, donors, supporters, and alumni members to join our team and/or to do so in support of the Heart Institute through the Scotiabank Charity Challenge!
