\nSixi\u00e8me d\u2019une fratrie de huit enfants, John \u00e9tait atteint, comme ses cinq fr\u00e8res, d\u2019une maladie cardiaque potentiellement mortelle.
\n
\n\u00ab \u00c0 l\u2019\u00e9t\u00e9 2024, j\u2019ai \u00e9chou\u00e9 \u00e0 une \u00e9preuve d\u2019effort. Une angiographie a par la suite r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9 quatre obstructions de mes art\u00e8res cardiaques. J\u2019\u00e9tais suivi, mais je n\u2019avais jamais entendu parler d\u2019op\u00e9ration \u00e0 effraction minimale pour mon \u00e9tat. \u00bb<\/em>
\n
\nN\u00e9 et \u00e9lev\u00e9 dans la petite ville de Kenora, en Ontario, John m\u00e8ne une vie bien remplie comme mari, p\u00e8re de trois gar\u00e7ons, avocat et juge \u00e0 la Cour sup\u00e9rieure de justice de l\u2019Ontario pendant plus de 16 ans. Toujours actif, il passe des ann\u00e9es \u00e0 courir, p\u00eacher, jouer au squash et nager. Un chalet isol\u00e9 et rustique lui permet \u00e9galement d\u2019effectuer des t\u00e2ches physiques saisonni\u00e8res et des projets en plein air.
\n
\nLes fr\u00e8res Fregeau d\u00e9couvrent leur pr\u00e9disposition g\u00e9n\u00e9tique aux maladies cardiaques lorsque l\u2019un d\u2019entre eux subit une intervention chirurgicale \u00e0 66 ans.<\/span>\u00ab Apr\u00e8s une \u00e9preuve d\u2019effort infructueuse et une angiographie r\u00e9alis\u00e9e \u00e0 Thunder Bay, on l\u2019a envoy\u00e9 \u00e0 Toronto d\u2019urgence pour subir un quadruple pontage. \u00bb<\/em>

\nAu cours des 18 derniers mois, quatre des six fr\u00e8res ont subi un pontage. Le cinqui\u00e8me attend son op\u00e9ration \u00e0 Winnipeg. John explique que chaque diagnostic a \u00e9t\u00e9 une tr\u00e8s mauvaise surprise pour eux tous.

\n\u00ab Mon p\u00e8re est d\u00e9c\u00e9d\u00e9 \u00e0 51 ans d\u2019une crise cardiaque, mais aucun d\u2019entre nous ne pr\u00e9sentait de sympt\u00f4mes. Nous \u00e9tions tous en bonne sant\u00e9. Il y a 20 ans, nous serions probablement tous morts d\u2019une crise cardiaque soudaine.\u00a0<\/em><\/span>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tSuite \u00e0 son aiguillage vers l\u2019Institut \u00e0 Ottawa, John dit avoir re\u00e7u un appel beaucoup plus t\u00f4t que pr\u00e9vu.<\/span> \u00ab D\u00e8s le d\u00e9but, j\u2019ai \u00e9t\u00e9 impressionn\u00e9 par l\u2019efficacit\u00e9 et l\u2019\u00e9coute de l\u2019Institut et de ses membres. Le Dr Ruel a organis\u00e9 une conf\u00e9rence Zoom en juillet. Nous avons fix\u00e9 une date pour l\u2019intervention en ao\u00fbt. \u00bb<\/em>

\nMaintenant r\u00e9tabli et de retour chez lui, John se dit on ne peut plus satisfait de chaque \u00e9tape de son exp\u00e9rience. \u00ab De l\u2019admission \u00e0 la salle d\u2019op\u00e9ration, en passant par l\u2019unit\u00e9 de soins intensifs et le service hospitalier, toutes les personnes que j\u2019ai rencontr\u00e9es se sont montr\u00e9es aimables, professionnelles, disponibles.<\/em>

\nDu d\u00e9but \u00e0 la fin, la qualit\u00e9 des soins a \u00e9t\u00e9 exemplaire. Aucun superlatif ne suffirait \u00e0 la d\u00e9crire. \u00bb<\/em>
\n
\nLe Dr Ruel a r\u00e9alis\u00e9 trois pontages aortocoronariens, suivis par la pose d\u2019une endoproth\u00e8se par le Dr Chong, et d\u2019une angiographie. John a \u00e9t\u00e9 op\u00e9r\u00e9 le mardi 26 ao\u00fbt. Il est rentr\u00e9 chez lui le vendredi 29.

\n\u00ab Il n\u2019y avait qu\u2019une petite plaie au point de ponction, sur le c\u00f4t\u00e9 gauche de ma poitrine, \u00e0 l\u2019endroit o\u00f9 la cam\u00e9ra avait \u00e9t\u00e9 plac\u00e9e, et une incision de 8 cm. \u00bb<\/em>
\n
\nJohn encourage quiconque pourrait envisager une op\u00e9ration cardiaque \u00e0 effraction minimale \u00e0 \u00e9tudier les options. Pour lui, \u00ab ce choix allait de soi \u00bb<\/em>.
\n
\nD\u00e8s le mois de septembre, John a pu faire deux promenades de 60 minutes par jour et accomplir des t\u00e2ches l\u00e9g\u00e8res \u00e0 la maison. Ravi de pouvoir \u00e0 nouveau conduire son bateau cet automne et de retourner \u00e0 son chalet, il se r\u00e9jouit de passer des ann\u00e9es de retraite actives.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
