Beroly Mathew c\u00e9l\u00e8bre 28 ans de carri\u00e8re en soins infirmiers \u00e0 l\u2019Institut. Pour elle, l\u2019Institut a quelque chose de tr\u00e8s sp\u00e9cial qui en fait un milieu de travail extraordinaire : \u00ab\u2009Mes coll\u00e8gues me motivent et m\u2019inspirent. Chaque jour, je les vois d\u00e9passer les attentes pour offrir les meilleurs soins possibles \u00e0 leurs patients. Nous travaillons en \u00e9quipe, avec les m\u00e9decins, les travailleurs sociaux, les ergoth\u00e9rapeutes, les physioth\u00e9rapeutes, les pr\u00e9pos\u00e9s \u00e0 l\u2019entretien m\u00e9nager, etc. Je suis tr\u00e8s fi\u00e8re de travailler dans un \u00e9tablissement qui donne la priorit\u00e9 \u00e0 la compassion, au professionnalisme et aux soins centr\u00e9s sur le patient. Tout le monde ici excelle dans son domaine.\u2009\u00bb<\/p>

Alors qu\u2019elle n\u2019avait que 25 ans, Beroly a quitt\u00e9 Kerala, province du sud de l\u2019Inde, avec son mari et un baccalaur\u00e9at en sciences infirmi\u00e8res, pour vivre son r\u00eave \u00e0 Ottawa. \u00ab\u2009Je suis arriv\u00e9e au Canada en 1995 et j\u2019\u00e9tais excit\u00e9e de voir de la neige pour la premi\u00e8re fois.\u2009\u00bb<\/p>

Apr\u00e8s s\u2019\u00eatre sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9e en soins intensifs et avoir travaill\u00e9 de nombreuses ann\u00e9es au chevet des patients, Beroly est devenue facilitatrice des soins en 2018. \u00ab\u2009Mon travail est d\u2019assurer la fluidit\u00e9 des activit\u00e9s \u00e0 l\u2019unit\u00e9 H5, explique-t-elle. Nous avons 32 lits. Nous soignons des gens qui sont l\u00e0 \u00e0 cause d\u2019une maladie cardiaque, d’une crise cardiaque, d’une intervention diagnostique ou d’une transplantation. L\u2019\u00e2ge moyen de nos patients se situe entre 40 et 80 ans, mais il y en a aussi des plus jeunes. Et gr\u00e2ce aux avanc\u00e9es dans les soins cardiaques, nous en avons m\u00eame qui d\u00e9passent les 90 ans!\u2009\u00bb<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

L\u2019unit\u00e9 H5 compte six infirmi\u00e8res la nuit et neuf infirmi\u00e8res, en plus de Beroly, le jour.<\/strong> \u00ab\u2009Mon quart de travail commence \u00e0 7 h 15, mais j\u2019arrive habituellement juste apr\u00e8s 7 h pour demander au personnel de unit s\u2019il y a quelque chose \u00e0 r\u00e9gler, dit-elle. J\u2019offre du soutien aux infirmi\u00e8res et j\u2019agis aussi comme personne-ressource pour l\u2019unit\u00e9. Chaque matin, je dresse une liste \u00e0 l\u2019intention de mon gestionnaire, comprenant des notes sur les besoins des patients entrants, les cong\u00e9s potentiels, les horaires, les personnes \u00e0 isoler et les transferts. Je veille \u00e0 ce que tout avance et se passe bien. Chaque jour est diff\u00e9rent et j\u2019aime vraiment \u00e7a.<\/strong><\/p>

Le sentiment de satisfaction au travail de Beroly est fait de grands et de petits moments : \u00ab\u2009Parfois, la satisfaction vient d’interventions m\u00e9dicales qui changent tout pour quelqu\u2019un. \u00c0 d\u2019autres moments, c\u2019est avoir la chance de r\u00e9conforter quelqu\u2019un. Par exemple, un membre de la famille qui dit : \u201cJ\u2019\u00e9tais tellement inqui\u00e8te de l’op\u00e9ration de maman jusqu\u2019\u00e0 ce que vous me l\u2019expliquiez!\u201d Les patients et leur famille nous arrivent souvent effray\u00e9s. Les aider \u00e0 comprendre \u00e0 quoi s\u2019attendre, notamment en ce qui concerne les complications possibles et la convalescence, est tr\u00e8s gratifiant.\u2009\u00bb<\/p>

Au fil des d\u00e9cennies, Beroly a \u00e9t\u00e9 t\u00e9moin de progr\u00e8s qui sauvent des vies. \u00ab\u2009C\u2019est incroyable de voir \u00e0 quel point la technologie et nos m\u00e9thodes ont \u00e9volu\u00e9 depuis mes d\u00e9buts \u00e0 l\u2019Institut, dit-elle. Des innovations comme l\u2019ITVA, une intervention \u00e0 effraction minimale pour remplacer une valve aortique malade, ont \u00e9t\u00e9 introduites parall\u00e8lement \u00e0 des progr\u00e8s dans les techniques d\u2019angiographie et de chirurgie ainsi que dans la recherche et la pr\u00e9vention. J\u2019ai r\u00e9cemment parl\u00e9 \u00e0 mes amis et \u00e0 ma famille de l\u2019initiative Un million de c\u0153urs canadiens, et ils \u00e9taient tr\u00e8s enthousiastes.\u2009\u00bb<\/p>

Lorsqu\u2019on lui demande ce qu\u2019\u00eatre infirmi\u00e8re signifie pour elle, Beroly fait r\u00e9f\u00e9rence aux \u00ab 5 C \u00bb des soins infirmiers : compassion, comp\u00e9tences cliniques, communication, collaboration avec l\u2019\u00e9quipe et curiosit\u00e9 :<\/strong> \u00ab\u2009La curiosit\u00e9 d\u2019apprendre de nouvelles choses et de s\u2019am\u00e9liorer sur le plan clinique. Pour moi, les soins infirmiers ont toujours \u00e9t\u00e9 plus qu\u2019une profession. C\u2019est un honneur et un privil\u00e8ge d\u2019\u00eatre pr\u00e9sente dans la vie de quelqu\u2019un pendant ses moments les plus vuln\u00e9rables et de le d\u00e9fendre en lui tenant la main.\u2009\u00bb<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
